Invisible Children is a foundation my sister Allison and I got involved in a few years ago. Of course, Allison was a bit more involved than I was, having actually traveled to Uganda! But it is an organization that is trying to bring more awareness to the world about the Northern Ugandan peace crisis. This country has been in unrest for many years, making it very dangerous for children. The rebel militia group (Lord's Resistance Army, also known as the LRA) is creating a mutiny against the Uganda government. This terrorist group increases it's numbers by stealing children from their villages, forcing them to become soldiers in their militia. To resist being captured, thousands and thousands of children, called night commuters, do just that. When dark falls children are forced to leave their homes and congregate in the bush to escape being kidnapped from these killers, and trained to be killers themselves. The Invisible Children organization raises money for theses "invisible children" of Uganda by selling various items such as movies spotlighting the effected children and bracelets representing them. This is just a wonderful cause. You can find out more about Invisible Children by going to their website at http://www.invisiblechildren.com.
